The Black Hole- Bulge Relations in Active Galactic Nuclei

چکیده

We show that Massive Black Holes of AGNs follow the same approximately linear relation with the luminosity of the host spheroid (bulge) found in normal (quiescent) galaxies, with the black hole mass being 0.002 that of the bulge. We also demonstrate that Narrow line AGNs seem to have a significantly lower Mbh/Lbulge ratio, which implies a new strong correlation between Mbh/Lbulge and the width of the broad emission lines of AGNs (Wandel 2002). Combining existing data, new observations and extrapolation schemes based on the Faber-Jackson relation, the relation between the BH mass and the stellar velocity dispersion in the host bulge of AGNs is constructed. It too agrees with the relation found in quiescent galaxies.

Black Holes in Pseudobulges and Spheroidals: a Change in the Black Hole-bulge Scaling Relations at Low Mass1

We investigate the relationship between black hole mass and host galaxy properties for active galaxies with the lowest black hole masses currently known in galaxy nuclei. Hubble Space Telescope imaging confirms that the host galaxies have correspondingly low luminosity; they are ∼ 1 mag below L. In terms of morphology, ∼ 60% of the sample are disk-dominated, and all of these are consistent with...

The Black Hole-Host Galaxy Relation in Active Galactic Nuclei

The masses of the central black holes of Active Galactic Nuclei estimated by the reverberation virial technique seem to be significantly smaller than predicted from the black hole mass-bulge luminosity relation for massive black holes detected by kinematic methods in less active and normal galaxies. We reexamine the relation for updated data and suggest a few reasons that may cause this discrep...

Black Hole Demography from Nearby Active Galactic Nuclei

A significant fraction of local galaxies show evidence of nuclear activity. I argue that the bulk of this activity, while energetically not remarkable, derives from accretion onto a central massive black hole. The statistics of nearby active galactic nuclei thus provide an effective probe of black hole demography. Consistent with the picture emerging from direct dynamical studies, the local cen...

The Black Hole to Bulge Mass Relation in Active Galactic Nuclei

The masses of the central black holes in Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) can be estimated using the broad emission-lines as a probe of the virial mass inside the BLR. Using reverberation mapping to determine the size of the Broad Line Region (BLR) and the width of the variable component of the line profile Hβ line it is possible to find quite accurate virial mass estimates for AGN with adequate d...

Black hole mass and velocity dispersion of narrow line region in active galactic nuclei and narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxies

Controversy regarding whether Narrow Line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s) follow the same black hole — galactic bulge relation as normal galaxies has been raised by Mathur et al. (2001) and Ferrarese et al. (2001). In this paper, the correlation between the black hole mass and the velocity dispersion of the narrow line region, indicated by the [OIII] line width for a heterogeneous sample of NLS1s, i...
